James Tisdale, Sr. was born in either Scotland or Ireland, circa 1801-1805. Dates and locations are taken from census records, which vary. In 1847 James and his wife Jane (whose maiden name may be Bryan or Brady, born circa 1801 in Ireland, immigrated to Canada from Cavan, Ireland. They settled first in Smithfield, near Weston, Ontario, Canada. Later they moved to Wawanosh, Huron County, Ontario, Canada, where they farmed. Census records show that they belonged to the Church of England. James died of a stroke on 3 December 1876 in Goderich, Huron County, Ontario, Canada.

Please note, the birth dates for Ann Jane Tisdale Milner and George Tisdale are likely not accurate and we are aware that they conflict with each other. There is also the possibility of two other children, which we do not have documentation for. One is a son named Joseph and the other a daughter named Mary Ann, who may have married a John Beatty or had a son named John Beatty, living in Detroit, Michigan. These connections have not been verified and are part of our ongoing research project.
