John Tisdale was born about 1830 in Ireland. He immigrated with his parents, James and Jane Tisdale and siblings in 1847, to Ontario, Canada. He married Rachel Brooks, daughter of William and Margaret Brooks. (John's brother George later married Rachel's younger Martha, as his 2nd wife) He died tragically young of meningitis when he was 33 years old. Rachel later married a Craig.
John Tisdale and Rachel Brooks had one son, William John Tisdale, born in July 1858. Rachel and William moved to the United States and lived in Missouri and Oregon.
